Wednesday Weather Update: Cold, snowy, windy start to the day

Winter Weather Advisory

Snow showers continue Wednesday morning before tapering off by noon.

Snow covered roads and icy spots have been reported across the region. The Highway Patrol is warning drivers of slick conditions, advising drivers to slow down and allow plenty of time for travel.

The higher elevation spots will see an additional 1"+ Wednesday morning as valley see an additional dusting to 1/2". Sunshine and breezy conditions help to dry roads this afternoon.

Highs won't get out of the 30s for many mountain valleys Wednesday.

Wind chills will range from the 10s in the morning, to the 20s during the afternoon.

Come Thursday, noticeably warmer weather takes hold with highs in the upper 50s for Asheville, along with sunshine!

Rain chances go up into Friday.

  • Today: Partly sunny with snow showers likely this morning, then sunny with isolated flurries this afternoon. Additional snow accumulation up to 1 inch. Blustery with highs in the mid 30s. Northwest winds 15 to 20 mph with gusts up to 45 mph. Chance of snow 70 percent.
  • Tonight: Mostly clear and blustery, cold with lows in the mid 20s. Northwest winds 15 to 20 mph with gusts up to 40 mph.
  • Thursday: Sunny, windy and not as cool with highs in the mid 50s. Northwest winds 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 45 mph.
  • Thursday Night: Mostly clear and windy. Lows in the upper 30s. Northwest winds 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 40 mph.
  • Friday: Partly sunny. Highs in the mid 50s. Northwest winds 10 to 15 mph. Gusts up to 35 mph in the morning.
  • Friday Night: Mostly cloudy. A chance of rain showers after midnight. Lows in the upper 30s. Chance of rain 40 percent.
