FBI: Body found in NC identified as missing Prince George's County teen, Ashanti Billie. (FBI)

The FBI has confirmed Saturday that the body found in Charlotte, North Carolina Friday has been identified as Ashanti Billie, the Prince George's County teen who went missing nearly two weeks ago.

According to the FBI, Ashanti Markaila Billie was last seen at around 5 a.m. on Monday, September 18, entering the Gate 1 at Joint Expeditionary Base - Little Creek in Norfolk, Virginia. Authorities say the 19-year-old was reporting for work at a sandwich shop on base.

The FBI says they have learned from the Mecklenburg County Medical Examiner’s Office and the Charlotte-Mecklenburg County Police Department that the human remains found in Charlotte have been positively identified as Ashanti Billie.

This is a statement from Martin Culbreth, Special Agent in Charge of the Norfolk Division of the Federal Bureau of Investigation:
It is with deep regret that I inform the community that Ashanti Billie has been located, deceased, in Charlotte, North Carolina. I, along with the entire investigative team, offer our most sincere condolences to the Billie family, especially Ashanti’s parents Brandy and Tony. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.
Thank you to the investigative team which includes the FBI, NCIS, Virginia Beach Police Department, and Norfolk Police Department for your tireless devotion to finding Ashanti. Your commitment to this effort demonstrates the true heart of law enforcement and I am proud of each and every one of you.
Our community should know that our work does not end here. Now our mission is to bring justice for Ashanti, and we will be relentless in our efforts to find who did this to her. We will not rest until the person who robbed Ashanti of her life, her promise and her future is held fully accountable under the law.
We are continuing to ask for the public’s assistance with the ongoing investigation. Anyone who may have information should contact the FBI Norfolk Field Office at (757)455-0100.

Her parents, Meltony Billie and Brandy Johnson Billie, spoke at a news conference Saturday evening:

Brandy Johnson Billie:
First of all, thank you, everyone, for coming out here today. It means a lot to us. To Ashanti, to her father and to myself.
We were notified yesterday that a body had been found, in Charlotte. And we were finally notified today that it was identified as Ashanti Markayla Billie, our daughter. So we just want to say thank you to everyone in the community here. Everywhere, even Nationwide that was searching for Ashanti. That helped us locate her. And, just, thank you to everyone that was able to assist us with that. The local area has been amazing. This community support here… we honestly couldn’t have asked for more and better community support from everyone. And to our team that was also helping us as well.
Meltony Billie:
For us, most importantly, we just want to thank everybody. We want to thank Courtyard Marriott for doing what they are doing. For the social media assistance. We want to thank the community. And we say to everybody to stay encouraged. This is not one of the outcomes that we all were seeking, but yet still you stay in the fight because there are other young people that are still missing. SO our desire and our prayers were answered. She is home, she is home with God. And we are okay with that. We are well with that. And we want you to know that we appreciate you. Nothing that you’ve done fell short of our goal that we are reaching, because our desire is to bring everyone home. Each and everybody that is missing. So we just want to thank everybody near and far for showing the love and the prayers and support for us. Thank you very much.
Brandy Johnson Billie:
And to echo that. I agree with everything Tony said. But to the person or persons, that decided they wanted to take our baby away from us, and away from everyone that loved her. You are a coward. And you didn’t deserve to breath the air that she breathed, at all. And Ashanti, baby, we love you, we love you, we love you. Thank you.
Meltony Billie:
I want to iterate something. We gotta stop this foolishness that is in this world right now, that is in the United States, starting. SO I’m going to tell you like right here. We’re talking about kneeing for a freaking national anthem. I know it’s probably way farfetched. The national anthem is one minute and twenty three seconds. That is probably how long it took that person to snatch my daughter up. Let’s get out here, let’s, let’s do better than what we are doing out here. We Are worrying about stuff like that. I say to you Mr. president, Finding young folks, missing folks, is more important than people standing up for the anthem. And I am a veteran. I’ve served this country, and I’ve earned the right to voice this. Thank you very much.
Brandy Johnson Billie:
Thank you
