While President Donald Trump met with foreign leaders in Vietnam Saturday, Vice President Mike Pence was back in Washington commemorating Veterans Day.

Early in the morning, Pence and wife Karen helped volunteers clean the Vietnam Veterans Memorial on the National Mall. According to the Associated Press, Pence spent about 40 minutes shaking hands, posing for pictures, and scrubbing the wall.

"This is a great way to start Veterans Day," Pence said.

Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke, a former Navy SEAL, was also on hand wiping down the wall, which is engraved with the names of fallen soldiers.

“You scrub and I’ll dry,” Zinke said to Pence at one point, according to a pool report.

Vice President Pence is also scheduled to attend a wreath-laying ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery at 11 a.m. ET.
