A mountain school has created an adventure program for it's students.

Evergreen Community Charter School designed a learning environment outside its classrooms.

It may look like play time, but the students are building with a purpose and goal in mind. Each is aware of the expectations -- for himself or herself, as well as within the group.

"I think a lot of the learning isn't knowingly happening, and that's kind of the magic behind it," adventure coordinator Doug White said.

By using adventure, Evergreen hopes to teach students to respect the environment, themselves and others, especially when it comes to working as a team.

"Once it's done, it's usually satisfying because it's like you all worked together and now you have this piece that's really nice," third-grader Stella said.

Problem solving is also a big part of the Adventure Club.

"It's easy if we all decide on one thing that we like and then you build it. And, with the team, it takes less time," third-grader Elias said.

You can learn more at Adventure Demo Day from 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday on the school's East Asheville campus.
