First Shine Camp lets special-needs campers have some summer fun
SWANNANOA, N.C. (WLOS) —
Thanks to First Shine Camp, some special-needs campers are having some summer fun.
Asheville First Baptist Church holds the camp this week at Warren Wilson College.
During the four-day overnight camp kids take part in a number of activities throughout the area. On Tuesday, campers took a trip to Owen Pool in Swannanoa for a swim.
Organizers say the activities aren't just for the campers.
"The brings together some special needs community from Buncombe County and the surrounding area," said Casey Callahan, of the First Baptist Church of Asheville. "Along with our youth and young adults. And it really is unique in that way. As they combine these lives and experiences, it can change lives. Lives of the campers, and lives of the counselors."
First Shine is free for the campers to enjoy.
