Teachers are trying to build a passion for science, technology, engineering and math in students over the summer.

A summer STEM camp in Henderson County give kids a chance to expand their knowledge while school is out.

When News 13 crews visited, campers were using a circuit board to identify conductors and insulators by creating their own keyboards.

Teachers said the goal is to get more kids interested in the STEM program.

"Our hope is that we are developing lifelong learners and creating a passion for STEM, and eventually, keeping our fingers crossed that a lot of these kids will decide to go into STEM careers as they get older," Stephanie Patton, the STEM coordinator, said.

There's one more STEM camp that's being offered this summer, which starts on Monday, July 31.

It's open for Glenn Marlow students as well students at Fletcher Elementary School.
