Asheville's reputation in the beer industry is well-known, but North Carolina as a whole produces a lot of impressive beer.

Many of those brews are produced by women in a traditionally male-dominated field.

For the first time ever, the Pink Boots Society will host the Biere de Femme Festival in downtown Shelby.

The Pink Boots Society is an organization created to help women advance their careers in the beer industry through support and education. Much of the money raised for this event will go to scholarships for women to learn the craft of beer making.

From the event's website:

The festival will showcase 30 breweries. Each brewery will be pouring at least 2 beers, one of which will be a beer created specifically for the festival, with women employees of the brewery. There will also be representatives from the numerous Brewing Degree Programs from Colleges across the state, a wall dedicated to the History of Women in Beer, a book release, sensory training for guests, and many more attractions showcasing the women who work so hard in the beer industry.

Guests will receive a commemorative glass from the event and will be able to sample beer from all of the participating breweries. VIP guests will have an additional hour to sample, and will also receive a copy of the book being released "Brewing up Ambition", a T-Shirt as well as access to the VIP tent. Many of the women featured in "Brewing up Ambition" will be participating in the festival, and will be on hand to autograph their pages in the book.

Participating breweries include: New Belgium Brewing, Highland Brewing, Oskar Blues Brewery, Wicked Weed Brewing Company, Bhramari Brewing Company, Birdsong Brewing, Blowing Rock Brewing Company, Bombshell Brewing Company, Burial Brewing, Crank Arm Brewing Company, Dreamchasers Brewing, Free Range Brewing, Fullsteam Brewery, Hi-Wire Brewing, Hillman Beer, Joymongers Brewing, Legion Brewing, Lonerider Brewing Company, Mother Earth Brewing, Mystery Brewing Co., Newgrass Brewing Co., NoDa Brewing Company, Oak and Dagger Public House, Pisgah Brewing, Ponysaurus Brewing Company, Preyer Brewing Company, Raleigh Brewing Company, Sanctuary Brewing Co.
