A local hurricane relief drive has been extended through this week as victims of recent storms continue to recover.

The Buncombe County Sheriff's Office, Mission Hospital in Asheville, MANNA FoodBank and Smart Insurance Agency are all collecting items for hurriane victims through Saturday, Oct. 14.

The drive is focused especially on collecting personal hygiene items and non-perishable food items.

Buncombe County Schools are also using this relief drive as a teaching tool for students.

"The need doesn't stop, and we talk about that with our students," Jeremy Stowe, the principal of Emma Elementary School, said. "They don't just have the need today and tomorrow, they'll have the need for a while."

MANNA FoodBank is working with a national hunger relief organization to distribute the supplies to the areas devastated by the recent hurricanes.
