Giveaway Day: Ingles Tools for Schools

Hundreds of thousands of items poured in during the Ingles Tools for Schools drive and on Wednesday, August 16th, they are being handed out to local students.

Bill Murdock, CEO of Eblen Charities says already 1,000 local kids are signed up to receive the supplies. He says the non-profit expects to serve about 3,000 students in need of back-to-school items.

A big thank you to everyone who contributed to the effort!

The giveaway runs from 9:00 until 4 p.m. on Wednesday and will take place at the Ingles Toy Store (former Bon Marche) in the Westgate Shopping Center in Asheville. Any local student in need of materials for school, can take part. Guardians should bring their photo identification and the photo identification for each student receiving supplies. If you are in need of supplies for your child but cannot attend, contact Eblen Charities.

Some organizations outside of Buncombe County also held drives to collect school supplies and those items will remain in those counties. Contact your local school system if you know of a drive that was held where you live.

Ingles Pharmacy and Eblen Charities have also teamed up to provide free vaccines, that are required for children who begin Kindergarten or 7th grade this year. The Ingles Pharmacy and Eblen Charities Vaccination Project will coincide with the Tools for Schools distribution on Wednesday, August 16 from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm.

Health care professionals will be on-site to screen those interested in these life-saving vaccines. Young Transportation will provide a shuttle service to and from the health department to receive the free service. Guardians of uninsured or underinsured children who are in need of the vaccinations should bring their child’s vaccination record and insurance or Medicaid information.
