What started as a small festival at New Belgium's original brewery in Fort Collins, Colorado, has now become a summer series with stops in 33 cities.

Tour de Fat kicks off Saturday, May 20 at New Belgium's Asheville brewery with Third Eye Blind. The tour visits 30 more cities through summer before stopping at the original brewery in Fort Collins on Labor Day weekend. The final show is in Tempe, Arizona in early October.

The brewery describes the 2017 Tour de Fat, now in its 18th year, as the biggest and boldest yet.

Adam Mundy, VIP ambassador for New Belgium, talked about the "traveling philanthropic beer, music, and bike festival" in an interview with News 13 on Saturday.

"We're all about whimsy," Mundy said about the costume-encouraged event. "Wear your underwear outside your clothes. You'll fit right in."

Not only are the events fun, but they benefit local non-profits in the towns they visit--usually, bike-related causes.

Ticket sales from Asheville's Tour de Fat will benefit Asheville on Bikes.

In many cities, New Belgium hosts a Battle of the Bands competition before the Tour de Fat, to give local musicians a chance to represent their city.

Ian Ridenhour won the Asheville competition on May 6, and will open for Third Eye Blind.

Tickets are $25, and the festival runs from 4-9pm on Saturday, May 20 at New Belgium's Asheville brewery.
