The Tryon International Equestrian Center in Polk County will host a summer Saturday series of family-fun events.

Saturday Night Lights will feature equestrian events plus face painting, pony rides, live music, a variety of street performers, and other family fun.

The series runs through June 10 at the TIEC, which is already gearing up for next year's FEI World Equestrian Games.

"It will be the largest sporting event ever in North Carolina," said Sharon Decker, COO of the Center, in an interview Saturday with News 13.

The event will bring an expected 500,000 people from all around the world to Western North Carolina.

The 2014 Games in Norway brought $400 million to the local economy, and TIEC organizers are expecting a similar impact on WNC.

According to TIEC's website, Saturday Night Lights complements every Grand Prix showjumping competition and they are scheduled as follows: May 6, 13, 20, 27 & June 3 and 10, 2017.

The event isn't just for locals.

TIEC is a part of Tryon Resort, a getaway destination with a variety of lodging properties from popular "tiny house" cabins and a 50-room inn, to RV spaces, rental homes, and 3- and 5-bedroom cabins along the river.
