Some local students will get on-the-job experience as part of a statewide initiative called Students at Work.

The North Carolina Glass Center is one of many Asheville businesses hosting students this week.

On News 13 This Morning, Lauren Brigman got a hands-on lesson in glass blowing and flame working which the students will observe during their time there.

The executive director said they hope to showcase many science lessons and the creativity of this career pathway.

"We have a lot of the science of molten glass. A lot of the chemicals used to make color," Kari Rinn, the executive director of N.C. Glass Center, said. "So, there's a lot of science going on in what we do and also a lot of creativity."

The N.C. Glass Center in the River Arts District supports the work of about 40 artists.

You can also become a student, sign up for a class or stop by for a live demo.
