Tips for Tax Day Deadline

Tuesday, April 18th is tax day and for those who may have waited until the last minute to file, News 13 has some tips to help you get through it.

Experts with OnTrack Financial, in Asheville, say there are free resources for filing electronically, like the website and

Celeste Collins, Executive Director of OnTrack Financial, says electronic filing is recommended, but if you are using the paper method make sure you double check your math.

Collins says there is good news even if you are filing last-minute - there are ways to save money.

"One of the best ways to save money this late in the game is to an individual retirement account, an IRA. If you're less than 50 years old, you can contribute up to $5,500. If you're over 50, you can do a catch-up contribution and the IRS allows up to $6,500."

You can also file an extension if you can’t meet the April 18th deadline. The form is available online from the IRS and NC Department of Revenue.
