Where better to hold a pretzel festival than a brewery?

When the owner of Asheville Pretzel Company started making his garlic, onion & chive pretzel flavor, he found out pretty quickly how sensitive yeast is.

"I put the ingredients inside the pretzel, but the yeast doesn't like that," Michael said with a laugh. "It took us almost a year to get that flavor right. Unfortunately, we've thrown away a lot of pretzels."

Michael is now about to debut his new "mashed potato chip" at the second annual Pretzelfest on Saturday, May 13 from 2 to 6 p.m. at Whistle Hop Brewery in Fairview.

The Asheville Pretzel Bandits--made up of part-time Asheville Pretzel Company employees Shawn Hagan, Mitch McConnell and John Fullam--will perform at the festival.

Michael and the owners of Whistle Hop, Gina and Tom Miceli, visited the News 13 studios to talk about the festival.
