YMCA's annual campaign hopes to get people moving!
Woodfin, N.C. (WLOS) —
There's an effort underway at YMCA's across Western North Carolina to give back to the community, and also help you get moving.
At the Woodfin Y, a donation is your ticket to a featured workout class happening this month.
From Glow-in-the-Dark yoga to Spin Karaoke, the instructors try to make each class unique.
The Woodfin YMCA is trying to raise $50,000 and so far they are halfway there.
Staff members say membership fees go toward funding the YMCA facilities, but this annual campaign helps the non-profit bring programs to the community. Those programs range from scholarships and summer camps, to nutrition and diabetes education, to providing meals for some area children.
Lisa Riggsbee, YMCA nutrition manager, "This is the best way to really come in and see what the YMCA community is all about. You come into these classes and you see people with really big hearts that want to come and get their sweat on and also want to support the community in a new and unique way."
Anyone can participate in the effort and registration is underway right now for the featured classes.
The total goal for the YMCA campaign across Western North Carolina, is more than $660,000.
