Asheville native and musician Warren Haynes spoke with News 13 on June 2, 2017, about the death of Gregg Allman.

Allman, one of the founding members of The Allman Brothers Band, died May 27 at the age of 69 at his home near Savannah, Georgia, said Michael Lehman, the rock star's manager. He was laid to rest in Macon, Georgia, on Saturday.

Former bandmate Warren Haynes spoke exclusively with News 13 from Europe about a trademark style and sound Allman developed on his own.

"He was obviously someone who had listened to a lot of soul music and blues music and was able to capture that emotion without sounding like he was copying anyone," Haynes said.

Haynes also spoke about the heartbreak he felt when he learned Allman had died.

"It would have been great if he held out, but a lot of us knew it was going to happen. Still, when I got the word that he passed, it was heartbreaking, and it's going to take me a long time to get over it," Haynes said.
