Grandmother hoping to fulfill dying grandchild's Christmas wish

A grandmother is hoping to fulfill her dying grandchild's wish of a Barbie tree for Christmas.

OAKHURST, Calif. (KMPH) - It's a beautiful tree for a beautiful little girl.

Tammie Sterling says its something she's dreamed of giving her granddaughter Ariel for years.

"Grandma is going to get you a bunch of ornaments and grandma is going to make you a Barbie doll tree, and she just loved that idea."

Tammie says she loved it so much -- the thought of a tree, full of barbies put a smile on the face of her granddaughter.

A smile -- that has since vanished from ariels face.

Niemman Pick C -- a rare, deadly disease -- took the smile Tammie is desperately trying to bring back.

"She just lays there. She can't move any part of her body. I know we know she's there. She’s comatose. And what happens next we just don’t know. We really don’t."

Tammie says in November - Ariel took a turn for the worse.

Which is why she is now looking for help.

“I would hate to know that this Christmas would be her last. We don’t know her condition right now. I just don’t even want to think about that. But I just wanted to try and do something to see if she would wake up for me."

But Tammie says as soon as she reached out on Facebook -- she started getting an overwhelming response.

"I wish I could hug each and every person."

Several people have responded donating ornaments and Barbies.

Helping Tammie fulfill her Christmas promise.

"I just want to see if something could make her wake up, that is what I am hoping for. We just don’t know."

A wish for a beautiful little girl to wake up, see the sparkle -- and smile.

The family has set up a gofundme page, if you would like to help them and donate click here.
