Reducing Icy Falls
Updated: Friday, August 2 2013, 10:18 PM EDTStudy after study has shown those who take care of the sick often don't take care of themselves. Now, as News 13's Jay Siltzer shows us in today's Health Alert, one area hospital is paying for screenings to help everyone's bottom line.Getting a blood-sugar level check is probably a good idea for Jason Greb, the I-T director at Angel Medical Center in Franklin.Jason Greb, Angel Medical employee, "I had two grandparents that were both diabetic. I'm not sure what kind it was, but they'd take the shots."Kim Watkins, RN, Community Educator, "so with a family history of diabetes, it's always something you want to be aware of and make sure you're getting those blood sugars checked."On this day a reading of 98 is good, but this screening is part of a larger overall new employee health management plan at Angel. Jim Bross, Angel Medical CEO, "beyond diabetes, we are also looking at heart disease risks, we are looking at asthma, and obesity, smoking cessation, tobacco cessation." Employees are now reminded at every turn to care for themselves as well as they do their patients. To give you some idea just how successful the program has already been, 65 percent of all employees at the hospital are taking part, break that down even further and it's 78 percent of all employees enrolled in the insurance plan. Jason, "I'm actually running more often, walking, looking more at the food that I eat."Ultimately, saving himself and the hospital on healthcare costs while becoming more productive as an employee.Health Management Plan
