Life has come full circle for one local transplant patient.
As News 13's Jay Siltzer shows us in today's Health Alert, emotional encounters for him underscore the importance of organ donation.
Lung transplant recipient Duncan Quinn meets for the first time the respiratory therapist at Mission Hospital who developed protocol for lung procurement.
Duncan Quinn, recipient of lungs, "I no longer cough any more hardly at all."
It's just been a tremendous relief and a second chance at life.
Quinn's recovery from cystic fibrosis and transplant, is embraced by Demitrius McGee, reaffirming his family's decision to donate the organs of daughter Niyale following her death from a skateboard accident in 2011.
Demetrius McGee, father of donor, "she was just a helpful person... She always wanted to help people. It's amazing to me we are in this situation..."
Nicole Allen McGee, mother of donor, "if you were having a bad day she was going to turn it around, and in her death, Niyale brought life through her organs to at least six others."
Debbie Mann Gibbs, Lifeshare of the Carolinas, "stories like this are what our organization is all about. We work very hard every day to make sure we can make as many organs available as possible for other people that need them."
If you would like to be an organ donor, you can sign up at the DMV when you get your driver's license or click here to be linked to the online registry.
