Possible MAMA Expansion

Updated: Tuesday, February 19 2013, 07:30 AM EST
Mission Hospital is looking to expand it's medical fleet by adding a third helicopter.

The Mountain Area Medical Airlift, better known as "MAMA", currently has two helicopters.

According to hospital officials, the expansion will better serve the area that Mission Hospital cares for patients.

Johnny
Grindstaff, MAMA flight nurse, "over the last year or so we have
identified that there in excess of 150-flights or so that we just
weren't able to make with the 2 MAMA helicopters we currently have so by
adding a third helicopter, it should help us be able to serve all the
patients that we have requests for."

Currently the hospital is exploring funding options for the almost $2 million project.

This
Thursday, the Bi-Lo Cooperation is rolling out a "scan card" that will
allow customers to contribute money to the initiative.
