Call it a growing movement. More and more seniors in Hendersonville are taking part in "Silver Sneakers."
As News 13's Jay Siltzer shows us in today's Health Alert, it doesn't have to cost participants a dime.
Pounds lost, better posture, stronger muscles...those are only some of the advantages of the Silver Sneakers program at Pardee, aimed at seniors who might not otherwise exercise.
Emily Van Eman, Pardee Wellness Coordinator, "we train every single person who comes in and give you a free training so that you know how to move safely thought the equipment."
Lea Mueller, instructor, "they are all at different levels. Some stay seated the whole class or you can do everything standing... There's a wide range of levels."
75-year-old Danni Geisler is tops in her class, "I think the quality of life, when you are as old as we are, should be easy and we want to keep moving."
The classes are held twice a week for an hour. In most cases, co-insurance will cover the cost as preventive care.
"Since I have been exercising, I have felt so much more zip."
And a healthier better quality of life that's all the while saving her and her insurance company money on healthcare costs.
