Heart Adventure Course

It's a fitness course that teaches students how the heart work and we showcase the project in our Never Stop Learning report.
It's a fast moving activity that sends kids on a journey through the four chambers of the heart in a larger than life setting.
Students use scooters to navigate the bloods pathway as it begins it's journey from the right side of the heart to the lungs in search of oxygen.
They carry the red balls when they're moving on the part of the heart that has oxygenated blood.
This is a one way system and a never ending process which means the students at Clyde Elementary School repeat the course many times during the 50 minute PE class.
Studies show if you stimulate the brain with physical activity it improves your memory. They also have to do math problems along the way.
The heart adventure course rotates through the 9 elementary schools in Haywood County.
The equipment was purchased through a three year, million dollar, federal grant.
The school system has been able to purchase numerous fitness courses and programs over the last two years.
