Most coloring books are used for a child's entertainment, but this book is different, it's actually a teaching tool.

4th graders are using their new coloring books to learn about the history of Henderson County.

Inside there are pictures of the courthouse, pre-Civil War homes and even the first public school.

The students read about each one, then they use their iPads to search for additional information.

The Hendersonville Historic Preservation Commission donated more than 1,100 coloring books to 16 elementary schools.

Now that the students have a better understanding of the Henderson County history, teachers say they hope to take the 4th graders on a walking tour into downtown Hendersonville.Historic Hendersonville
