Honoring Veterans

Updated: Monday, November 11 2013, 03:24 PM EST
Next Monday is Veterans Day, and because students will be out that day, many schools are celebrating the holiday this week.

In todays' Never Stop Learning we visit Emma Elementary school where a Navy officer is returning to his roots.

Chief Petty Officer Sam Tucker served 24 years in the Navy.  58 years ago he graduated high school from what is now Emma Elementary.

This morning he returns in full uniform to encourage students to use their education to reach for the stars.

Other veterans were also part of the program encouraging students to be respectful, motivated and a team player.

Students say they're proud of where they live and thankful for those who have served.

Sargent Thompson led the students in cadence calls and had them marching in place.

Perhaps one of the more touching moments of the ceremony happened at the end.  Students who had family who served in the military we recognized and given certificates. The students shook their hands and thanked them for their service.Honoring Veterans
