Learning to Love Literacy

Teachers have high expectations for the kindergarteners at Vance Elementary School. And, a new literacy program just might help them reach their goals.
Students take turns reading a page and then their partner identifies the character.
Everyday the students take part in 6 different literacy stations. They work on their reading and writing words, their ABC's and their phonics. In just two weeks they've already learned what to do during each activity.
Their teacher, Megan Sanchez was able to get a grant from the Asheville city schools foundation to get the program started. That grant covered the cost of the teacher training.
Another goal is to teach the students to work independently so they can find the success within themselves when it comes to learning.
