Path to Emancipation

A traveling exhibit finds a home in downtown Asheville for Black History Month, with a spotlight slavery in America.

The path to emancipation exhibit is at the YMI Cultural Center.

Marking the the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation in 1863.

Each panel outlines the struggle for freedom by enslaved people in our state and across the nation.

Roy Harris, YMI Cultural Center,  "but they were a vital part of the economy.  And as we start black history month, we just want children to know that slavery is a part of most southerners lives, whether we're black or white."

The Path to Emancipation exhibit will remain at YMI Cultural Center through Wednesday.Path to Emancipation
