Summer Reading Program

North Carolina lawmakers have passed new legislation that says this year, all third graders must be on grade level.
So that means some students are hitting the books this summer in hopes of catching up.
For some students it's already paying off!
Students at Johnston Elementary school are working on their reading, comprehension and fluency.
The goal is to re-enforce what they learned in the second grade and introduce them to things they'll experience in the third grade.
As a matter of fact, these students are already on task.
They're reading a third grade chapter book but they're still just a little nervous about what to expect this fall.
This summer the students used a great deal of technology to put a slide together titled "All About Me."
It was a great way to learn more about technology and each other.
