Dr. Clyde Brooks

Dr. Clyde Brooks of Brevard is our "Person of the Week."

He's chairman of "Friends Of The Animal Shelter" and spearheaded the fundraising efforts that made the new Transylvania County facility a reality.

"There's a lot of animals out there that need a home," the veterinarian says.

"We would not have had this shelter without Dr. Brooks and Friends of the Animal Shelter," county manager Artie Wilson tells us. "Because commissioners said 750-thousand was the bottom line that the county was gonna put in."

That's 350-thousand dollars short of what the facility would cost. So Brooks rallied the community to support the cause.

"All together we had 850 identifiable donors," says Brooks. "Anything from a dollar, to much much more."

Wilson says Dr. Brooks' passion made the state of the art building a reality. The perfect example of a public-private partnership.

"Without his persistence we would not have had it."Dr. Clyde Brooks
