Lifting Gift Ban

A North Carolina lawmaker wants to lift the ban on gifts from lobbyists to state legislators. The ban was put in place following the corruption convictions of former house speaker Jim Black.
Republican Representative Robert Brawley introduced HB 640 saying laws don't prevent people from breaking the rules. He says the ban on gifts and requirements for reporting aren't needed.
The North Carolina Coalition for Lobbying and Government Reform believes Brawley's bill would take us back in time and would be bad for government and increase the chances for more corruption and influence peddling with lawmakers.
