Special Report: Wi-Fi Worries

Updated: Friday, August 2 2013, 09:23 PM EDT

Computer hackers can steal your sensitive information in a matter of minutes, but there are simple steps you can take to avoid being a victim.

Local experts say to first change the name of your home wireless network. Don't leave it as "Linksys" or "Netgear". Second, don't use the default password. Change it to something unique.

Cyber thieves may also take photos or video of you in public as you enter credit card numbers and other private information. It's a bad idea to wave your smartphone or credit cards around. Also, use encrypted websites. Look for "https" in the address bar. It means the site you visit is secure.

Hackers not only steal sensitive information, but can get you in trouble with law enforcement.
