Asheville Courthouse Project

Updated: Thursday, April 25 2013, 07:24 AM EDT

A piece of Asheville's skyline will soon be gone. The big blue crane that's part of the new courthouse construction project will come down this weekend. Demolition will begin on Friday night and end on Sunday.

Project manager Bill Stafford says it's going to take two days and 14 tractor trailers to haul away the 265 foot crane. Starting Friday at 7 p.m, the eastbound lanes of College Street will be closed.

Project managers say if you're going to be downtown this weekend, stay away from the construction site. They say a large group of onlookers will make the demolition take longer then it needs to.

Construction on the courthouse is scheduled to be completed by October.
