Asheville Fee Hike Approved
Updated: Tuesday, March 26 2013, 10:12 PM EDT
The Asheville City Council voted to raise fees on water, garbage and parking rates. It's all in an effort to offset a $1.9 million budget deficit.
The fee increases passed unanimously, with one council member and the mayor absent. Only two people spoke in opposition to the rate increases specifically targeting water rates.
Parking fees will go up by 25 cents an hour, water rates go up by one percent and a new $7 monthly trash collection fee will be imposed.
The new fees would be part of next year's budget which is scheduled to be voted on before July 1st.
