Asheville Polar Plunge

Updated: Monday, February 24 2014, 07:44 AM EST
Saturday's warmer weather offered some welcome relief for those who took the Polar Plunge.

The 6th annual Polar Plunge was held at the Asheville Racquet Club and even in the sunshine, that water was still plenty cold.

About 30 people dressed in outrageous costumes, executing dives, jumps, and flops.

The plunge benefits Meals on Wheels, an organization dependent upon community support.

Eliza Sydney, Meals on Wheels volunteer, "it's just a great organization delivering the meals every week is the highlight of my week and this is definitely the high of my year to do the plunge."

Buncombe County Sheriff Van Duncan was among those who took the chilly dive, he's a Polar Plunge regular.

Meals on Wheels serves nearly 500 home bound seniors five-days-a-week.Asheville Polar Plunge
