Bellamy To Run For Congress
Updated: Friday, March 1 2013, 07:04 AM EST
Asheville Mayor Terry Bellamy says she will not run for a third term as mayor. Instead, she will throw her name in the ring for Congress. Bellamy will run against Rep. Patrick McHenry for his 10th district Congressional seat.
Mayor Bellamy made the announcement during Thursday night's State of the City Address. Bellamy says she's leaving the city in good shape and it's time to move on.
Bellamy has been on the Asheville City Council since 1999 and served as mayor since 2005. She was defeated in the Democratic primary for Congress last May.
