Box Creek Dispute

Updated: Tuesday, April 9 2013, 09:55 PM EDT

An organization trying to put a power line through a nature preserve is getting opposition from some of its customers.  The Rutherford Electrical Membership Cooperative or R.E.M.C. wants to run a power line through the Box Creek Wilderness to better serve the Dysartsville area.  Customers like Michelle Harris, who live next to the land, are concerned about the impact it would have on the wildlife, and property values.  Harris says R.E.M.C. board members were very vague when she asked about environmental impact studies and why additional power was needed in Dysartsville.

R.E.M.C. Director Joe Joplin says because the Box Creek owner is fighting the power line in court, there are many things he legally cannot discuss.  But Joplin says the co-op has done an environmental impact study and is doing it's best to serve it's rural customers.
