Cops With Cameras
Updated: Friday, February 22 2013, 07:07 AM EST
UNCA police officers have a new tool- video cameras. Officers are now wearing body cameras that will record all incidents police respond to on campus. They enacted this camera policy at the beginning of the month.
The tiny cameras are worn on the officers uniform. Campus Police Chief Eric Boyce says they're a lot more efficient then dash cams in cruisers. Boyce says all eight of his officers will be wearing the cameras from now on. He says it will help keep cops and the community on their toes, but the cameras are being met with mixed reaction from students.
The eight cameras cost $8,500. If you have an interaction with an officer here on campus, they do have to tell you that the camera is turned on.
