Crash Investigation, Power Outage

A major power outage for thousands of people today after a car wreck this morning in Columbus.

The lights went out in Columbus at around 8am this morning.

Officials have confirmed the interim county manager, Marche Pittman, was behind the wheel of the SUV when the vehicle drove into a power pole.

The details of what exactly led up to that are still under investigation, but the hit caused damages to Duke Energy's power structure that are going to take 6 and 8 hours to repair.

For now, the electricity has been turned off for between 1000 and 1500 residents and it's not expected to be back on until about 5pm while power crews work on the repair.
