Crews Contain Transylvania Wildfire

Updated: Sunday, April 28 2013, 08:42 AM EDT

The Forest Service says the fire on Quebec mountain is fully contained at this time.

They say once the heavy rain moved in early saturday afternoon, crews moved out, but will continue to monitor the area for the next couple of days.

The fire covered nearly 180-acres before it was contained.

Officials say no structures were damaged.

Rangers say it may have been intentionally set, but the cause is still under investigation.

It all started when six small brush fires popped up along Highway 64 between Rosman and Lake Toxaway. The fire spread to 100 acres by early evening.

Rangers say the fire may have been intentionally set.

Crews from the North Carolina Forest Service, National Forest Service, and local fire departments were called in to help. Around 7:45 p.m. Friday, they started back burning up the mountain to keep things from getting much worse.

Officials say the fire did get close to some homes, but didn't cause any damage. Several fire trucks are on standby near those houses just in case.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation. If you have any information, call the sheriffs office at (828) 884-3168.
