Daycare Closes

Updated: Monday, February 25 2013, 07:15 AM EST

Parents in Transylvania County scramble to find daycare after one shuts down unexpectedly. Last week, Where Dreams Come True Daycare in Brevard closed its doors. That prompted one mother to consider quitting her job if she couldn't find a replacement.

There are nine licensed centers for 33,000 people in Transylvania County. One mom tells News 13 that's not enough. Heather Formilla says Where Dreams Come True Daycare became a nightmare when they shutdown last week. Formilla says the daycare called her last Friday afternoon to tell her they were closing.  The mother of two says she spent the weekend scrambling to find a place to enroll her son, Aiden. She says she thought about quitting her job when she found out the only daycares with slots for 2-year-olds were in Rosman, which is well out of the way of her home in Fletcher and job in Brevard.

Transylvania County DSS says when they heard Where Dreams Come True was closing, they tried to help. The daycare enrolled 80 to 90 kids. DSS says most families found new childcare, but not everyone.

There's assistance available if you live in Transylvania county and need help finding daycare. Call Transylvania County DSS at (828) 884-3174 or SouthWest Child Development at (828) 586-5561 for more information.
