Domestic Violence Fines In Cherokee
Updated: Wednesday, January 9 2013, 07:52 PM EST
People convicted of domestic violence in Cherokee will now have to pay a $1,000 fine. Tribal Council passed the measure hoping it serves as a deterrent. It’s an additional fine added to penalties handed down by the courts. Residents say they think the fine sends a strong message and will be effective. Half the money from the fine will go to victim services...the other half to education.
