Federal health officials say the most severe flu season in ten years now has outbreaks in 41 states.
North Carolina is one of the states afflicted with the widespread flu. However, the state is reporting a slight dip in the number of people reporting flu-like symptoms. The flu season is far from over, and there’s still a good chance the virus can make people sick if they haven’t had the vaccine.
People getting flu shots at the Buncombe County Health Department say they couldn’t get the vaccine at their doctors’ offices. They say reports of severe cases of the flu prompted them to get the shot.
Health officials say the vaccine can reduce the effects of the virus. It takes about two weeks following the vaccine for a person’s immune system to develop resistance to the disease.
