Group Home Fix

Updated: Tuesday, December 18 2012, 08:39 PM EST

Governor Beverly Perdue proposed a million dollar solution Tuesday to a funding shortfall for group homes across the state that care for adults with physical and mental disabilities.  Perdue ordered the department of Health and Human Services to direct one million dollars to be used as aid to fill the gaps after the state limited access to PCS or personal care medicaid funding.

The state was ordered to change the way it distributed medicaid dollars through it's PCS program by the federal government.  The state's solution wound up cutting some group home residents out of the PCS eligibility.  Governor Perdue has dedicated a million dollars to assist with housing to temporarily give them aid until the General Assembly can return and fix the law.

Caregivers are happy the money will keep flowing for now.  They say many of their residents have no where else to go and without PCS funding homes can't afford to keep them.
