Deputies make two arrests in the theft of homeowners’ tools in Haywood County.
Phillip Bryant of Waynesville and Hardy Davis of Clyde are charged with four felonies each. It happened in the Riverside Mobile Home Park on Hyder Mountain Road. Deputies say the two took lawn and construction equipment from their neighbors’ sheds and outbuildings.
Mobile home park owner John McCracken says it’s the only large burglary in the thirty years he’s owned the park. He says two tenants lost chain saws, leaf blowers, a log splitter and other equipment that were all used in their landscaping and construction business. He says the crime victims caught one of the suspects trying to sell the chain saws.
Deputies made the arrests after they were called to the scene. Hardy Davis is out of jail after posting $5,000 bond. Phillip Bryant remains behind bars under $20,000 bond.
