Henderson Co. Extended School Year

Updated: Monday, February 24 2014, 11:23 PM EST
Snow days are forcing Henderson County school administrators to extend the school year. The superintendent announced the calendar changes at tonight's school board meeting. Students will have to go a week longer than originally planned.

So far, Henderson County has made up three of their eight missed days. Superintendent David Jones says tacking on five days to the end of the year was the best option.

Most students will begin summer break on June 13th. Kids attending Hendersonville Elementary and Bruce Drysdale Elementary will go until June 5th. The last day for early college students is May 30th. At this point in time, the revised schedule keeps spring break in tact, including no school on Memorial Day and no Saturday classes.

Parents say they have mixed opinions about the revisions. Some say they
are upset because they've already planned their summer vacation.

Here's how some of those other districts are making-up snow days. Haywood, Madison, Buncombe and Asheville City Schools are all using selected Saturdays to make up some of their missed days. Buncombe will also go on Good Friday and Memorial Day. Mitchell County is extending their school day by 30-minutes starting in March.Henderson Co. Extended School Year
