Historic Snow Drought May Soon End

Updated: Thursday, March 7 2013, 10:32 AM EST

784 days.

That's how long it's been since significant snow was measured at Asheville Regional Airport.

Wednesday's forecast calls for an end to that streak, the longest since 1964.

Day after day for more than two years during the dry spell, the snow recorded there has been less than .3 inches.

January 10th, 2011 was the last big snow.

The airport measures precipitation totals for the National Weather Service.

Many are hoping for a decent snowfall total but folks at the airport aren't as excited. They say they're ready for it nevertheless.
