A Transylvania County man fights off an intruder who broke into his home. It happened around 4 p.m. Wednesday afternoon at a home on King Mountain Road in the Cedar Mountain community.
The Transylvania County Sheriff's Office says the intruder entered an outbuilding and came face-to-face with the homeowner. Deputies say the man had a machete and told the homeowner to give him money. The homeowner pulled out a .22 pistol and shot the intruder with ratshot.
Deputies say the intruder was shot in the stomach but got into a van and drove up Rich Mountain Road.
