The Asheville Police Department released the name of the man accused of assaulting an undercover officer. Police say 52-year-old Roger Lytle got into the confrontation with the officer outside the Up In Smoke shop on Tunnel Road Tuesday night. They believe Lytle purchased a synthetic drug called "Bizzaro." They say the confrontation continued down Tunnel Road to the Olive Garden. That is where another officer tasered Lytle and took him into custody.
Lytle faces several charges, including Assault on a Government Official; Resist, Obstruct and Delay and Misdemeanor Larceny. The last charge is tied to a theft from a Dollar General store earlier in the night.
The undercover officer had a bloody nose. Doctors treated and released him.
