Martin Luther King Jr. Day Tree Planting

Updated: Monday, January 21 2013, 04:24 PM EST

Asheville Greenworks teamed-up with Green Opportunities, Americorp and community volunteers to plant 50 food-bearing trees at the Peace Garden located at the Pisgah View Apartments in West Asheville.

It was all part of the Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service. Organizers say it's  a great way to create something with a lasting impact.

"We really feel it's important to support our community, and on a day of service like today, we want to make sure we did a not only noteworthy project, but something that's gonna have a tangible end," said Rachel Tanksley-Russell of Asheville Greenworks.

The Peace Garden was started back in 2007. All the produce is given to those who volunteer there.
