Mountain Family Says Russian Adoption Law Hits Close To Home

Updated: Monday, January 7 2013, 05:00 PM EST
Sandy and Karen Barnhill celebrated the holidays with extra joy this year. They brought home their adopted son Drake from Russia in mid November. That timing, as it turned out, was quite fortunate.

Last week, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a controversial law into effect, banning Americans from adopting Russian children.

"With us getting him home November 16th and all this going down we feel very blessed that we were able to get everything finalized," said Karen Barnhill.

They hope the situation is resolved soon for the sake of kids. They keep in touch with couples who have adoptions in limbo.

Sandy wants those willing and waiting parents to experience the same parental bliss they have.

"I don't think words can express how we've felt so far."
