N. Buncombe Football Star Arrested

Updated: Wednesday, January 23 2013, 10:19 PM EST

North Buncombe High School football star Justin Jones is locked up, charged with 2nd degree rape, 2nd degree kidnapping, and crimes against nature.

"He's very upset. He says he doesn't belong here, and he does not belong here," said Tonya Jones, Justin's mother.

The rape allegedly happened behind the school at a recreation center last June. It's unclear when police were contacted, but arrest warrants were issued last December, and Justin was arrested Monday.

"This has just ruined him," said Tonya.

Justin's mom, dad, and aunt showed up at the Buncombe jail Wednesday hoping to bail the 18-year-old out. Tonya insists her son didn't do it. "There's two sides to every story," she said.

The first side by the alleged victim is contained in court papers obtained by News 13. Justin is accused of confining, restraining, then sexually assaulting the girl.

WLOS's Mario Boone asked Tonya, "Is there any way possible that he could've done any of the stuff they say he did?" Said Justin's mom, "I don't see it. I do not see it."

Justin's side, according to Tonya, the sex was consentual. "They were mutual friends at school." Until she says Justin found out the girl was actually under 16 and cut ties.

"She would call and Justin said I can't talk to her. I cannot talk to her." Sheriff's detectives couldn't confirm Justin's mom's account because the case remains under investigation.

In a bizarre twist, this story has gone viral on Facebook where Justin is now receiving deaths threats. "It definitely has me worried. It makes me wonder how I'm going to protect my son and my family," said Justin's dad, David Jones.

Justin was being held in lieu of a $30,000 bond. He's scheduled back in court February 11th.
